COVENTRY CLIMAX FWB - THE POWERPLANTThe car is fitted with a Coventry Climax FWB engine of 1460cc. In its time it has also raced with 1098 and 1216cc derivatives, the famous FWA.In my early days of racing the car I suffered many problems with oil pressure. Eventually, I met Greg Margetts of Competition Engine Services. Greg built an engine up for me; this cured all the problems. I have used Greg's units exclusively ever since. Their reliability and performance is excellent. The car is far from the quickest Lotus Eleven out on the circuits today, but it is always there and I have great fun. It lasts some three years between rebuilds, which for a race unit is exceptional, partly because I drive the car carefully of course. |
